Palma, The Bay of Palma and Aquarium photos
Palma de Mallorca is stylish, sophisticated and intimate city, yet bursting with life. Located on the southern shores of Mallorca, the island's capital city looks out over the sparkling blue seas of the Mediterranean. Half of Mallorca's population live here, enjoying the island's best restaurants, shops and nightlife as well as a thriving arts scene and a lively cafe society. Palma's masterpiece is its Gothic cathedral La Seu (built on the site of a mosque which in turn was once a Roman temple). Close to here is the old Arab quarter, with its maze of narrow streets hiding museums, palaces and exquisite courtyards. The Bay of Palma (Badia de Palma) provides spectacular sailing conditions. Do not miss Palma Aquarium, opened in 2007, and discover a fascinating world of flora and fauna of the largest seas and oceans around the world. There are very impressive displays of live corals and the Big Blue - the deepest shark tank in Europe (33 metres long, 25 metres wide, 8.5 metres deep, 3.5 million litres of salt water). If you have a PADI diver’s license you can even dive in this tank and swim with the sharks.
