A sadhu in Durbar Square
One thing Nepal is famous for is its Hindu holy men, or sadhus. Many of them around Durbar square seem to have become an attraction in themselves and expect a fee for a photo. For more authentic holy men you’d be better off moving outside the capital to somewhere like Pashupatinath, which is the site of Nepal’s most important Hindu temple. Being a sadhu means leaving behind all materialistic aspects of life, wearing simple clothes and owning just a begging bowl so a donation is greatly appreciated.
